Greek strikes, ash cloud. I am getting stupid amounts of pre-holiday paranoia over this one.

I'm going to Brazil in a week and a half.

No ash clouds to worry about, only violence, theft, corruption, environmental degradation, shark attacks, AIDS, and pissed-off over-protective Catholic older brothers.

Second thought, I'll take the ash cloud....

Are you going into the jungle, or are you going into that part of Brazil that's relatively tourist friendly?

It's not fully a pleasure vacation.

If all works out, I'll get an English teaching position in a city called Recife, in a province called Pernambuco, which has all the best and the worst Brazil has to offer.

I'd be open to some Amazonian exploration, though.

You forgot she-males. You have to worry about Brazilian she-males. Look for the big hands! And piranha attacks. And girls from Ipanema. And 7 foot tall assassins with metal teeth in the employ of Hugo Drax, especially around carnival time.

As you can see, my knowledge of Brazil pretty much comes from movies and the internet. Apart from the first bit obviously (ahem).

The title alone was enough for me to avoid that video.

Like the good friend that I am, I watched all eight minutes and thirty seconds of that video.

Wasn't worth it.

Hmm, that's a bit of a way's off, but I could see myself doing the World Cup. Or the 2016 Olympics for that matter.

The fanaticism for soccer in Brazil is incredible. I'm not as much of a sports guy as some, so I don't get it.

But maybe a year's immersion in Brazil will "convert" me.

In all the crowd shots at any international match, they always have the hottest fans.
