Adam's Gas Price Roundup

Posted by Adam54 on Monday, March 7, 2011

I figured this was worthy of it's own thread, which I assume will be hijacked in due course. Post your local gas price, and if nothing else this'll be fun to look back at in a few months and say "Wow, $3.50. Those were the days."

I saw a range between $3.54 and $3.69 today. I'm assuming by the end of the week that will be a range of $3.69 to $3.85ish. Summer scares me.

How much is it near you?

Regular was $3.25 in St. Louis yesterday. Didn't check the prices today.

In the 3.30s mostly, although I have seen some 3.40s.

I assume you are only talking about the lowest grade gas, not premium or diesel?

londontimes.blog.co.uk claims "£1.42p per litre." If that's true, it's about $8.70 a gallon.  (There are about 3.78 liters per gallon, and about 1.62 dollars to the pound.)

Are you all just dropping off the 9/10ths or rounding up because that penny matters!

I paid $3.39 9/10 on Sunday in the DC/Baltimore area.

£1.25 per litre near me, but close enough as makes no difference to £8-9 per gallon.  And we are an oil producing nation!!!!!  Imagine what it would be like if we weren't!

I am right up there with the idea of alternative fuel being the way forward.  But what?  Electricity is a red herring as at the other end of the plug is a power station burning coal or gas or oil..... at least until nuke power stations are much more widespread.

Hydrogen power?  Isn't that expensive to actually separate the hydrogen, and takes power, so the kit to do this has to be plugged into a power station butning coal or gas or oil.

The effect of oil prices on an economy cannot be underestimated.  It drives inflation through the effects on production and distribution costs of goods and services, yet negatively hits the consumer in the pocket meaning a drop in sales and services consumed at the same time.  It is a bad thing, economically speaking, all round.

As we try and drag ourselves out of the worst economic shit storm since the great depression this is something we really, really, really don't need.

Almost worth going to war over to secure remaining supplies.  So maybe we wouldn't, but somebody else would, which is also a bad thing.  So what do we do?

When I did the math without dropping off any numbers past the decimal point, I got $8.71 and some change. You're right, Dr. Ake, M.D. That penny does matter.
