Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

Posted by omicron on Wednesday, November 11, 2009

Figure I'd create a topic in the PROPER forum :)

Stopped at Gamestop last night and got a copy with no problem. Played through several hours of the solo campaign. Fun, and love the new weapons. The Prison break was a great sequence.

Started some multiplayer and next thing I know, it was 4am :) Still getting used to the new perks and weapons and kill streaks. Got a chance to play as a gunner from the attack chopper and was enjoying blowing the hell out of people

I learned a few things last night while playing this:

A. I should never ever attempt to operate a snowmobile.

B. Sometimes I wish people would stop shooting at me so I can gawk at the amazing scenery.

C. I really suck at the multiplayer so far.

I have been really getting into the multiplayer. There are so many perks and attachments to unlock, I find myself playing several more hours than I want when I log in.

One thing I am not liking is the sparse documentation on the various air-drops in multiplayer. I've gotten the AC-130 and I can't figure out how to switch between the guns. Also, I think if you get the Chopper Gunner, you can change the altitude of the chopper, but I haven't gotten it enough to play around.

Otherwise, I am having a great time playing the game.

The game is great! It's quick and I would say that's it's only downfall....However, it makes up for it with the Special Ops missions which I find entertaining, especially, when you have a friend or someone online to play with.

I don't have online until December so I have not had a chance to get into any multiplayer but the graphics are clean, the story is entertaining and I have to say, I think this surpassed the first Modern Warfare....It's just toooooo quick though...

I keep my standards low, that way im never dissapointed

I finally got back to the campaign for this yesterday (been distracted by Dragon Age and Assassin's Creed 2), and I have to say that it is a ton of fun. I still have a couple levels to go until I finish it, but every single level has been a blast to play, minus the boring (and controversial!) airport level and the first level in Brazil.

I've had a ton of fun with the Spec Ops mode as well. Playing with a friend is the optimal experience, but the levels are still fun by yourself. They are usually short and sweet, depending on what difficulty you are trying to tackle. My favorite levels so far are the one where you have to cross a bridge and the one where you are defending a point against waves of enemies while in the snow.

I've played some of the SpecOps mission too, and they are definitely a challege. I'll have to look you up and see if you'll help me out with the co-ops. I really want to do the AC-130 mission. That's got to be one of the best perks you can earn in multi.

Penny Arcade has a funny cartoon about the particular kit that seems to be dominating alot of online play.

I admit, it can be pretty deadly and I have a class built around marathon/lightweight/commando with a submachine gun/shotgun mix that can be pretty damn deadly.

The AC-130 mission is a lo of fun. If you're in the air, you get to blast a ton of enemies, and when you're on the ground, you get to see a ton of huge explosions going off all around you. It's pretty easy on Regular, but it gets damned difficult on Hardened and Veteran. Still haven't beat it on anything higher than Regular.

I could only beat that mission with my brother and he was in the air while I was on the ground. Once you get everything timed out, it falls into play fairly easily. I would suggest trying to play it with someone who KNOWS what their doing, though.

I beat all of Alpha and Bravo Ops and man, do the rest of them get fuckin' stupid hard. My brother and I have been able to complete one or two to get all three stars and the rest we are finding difficult just to pass it on Regular.

You get perks for multiplayer when you beat certain Special Ops?

The hard thing about that mission is there aren't any great places to hide for the person on the ground. If the person in the plane shoots a little too close to you with one of the big guns, friendly fire will stop you in your tracks. Add in the fact that you have to make it further into the map with each difficulty level and the increased damage from enemies makes it pretty tough to get through. Maybe I just need to take my time a bit more the next time I get to play it.

Nah, but one of the killstreak rewards is an AC-130 which you get to control the guns. I've only gotten it a couple of times through an airdrop, since it requires a pretty lengthy kill streak 8+ I think. Another fun one is the Chopper Gunner, which is alot like flying in the gunner seat from Bad Company only with a computer controlled pilot.

finished the single player storyline. At 50.7% finished. I guess you need to get all the enemy intelligence and stuff to get full completion. At 78% completion on multiplayer. It's amazing how trying to unluck another perk for a weapon will keep me up hours :)

unlocked all the guns. Still loving to play multiplayer. Working on getting 100% on all weapons, already done the m-16. Wonder when they will release new maps? I hope they do the oil rig as a multiplayer map.

New maps out today, only thing I don't like is that 2 of them are recycled from the old COD:MW

Not to mention that it costs WAY too much. A map pack like this one should cost about $5 at most, not $15.

yeah it is a little steep, especially since 2 of the maps are just basically ported from another game. But my dumbass still bought em :) Played a couple of them last night, they look good.

Not me. Of course, I haven't played MW2 for quite a while, so I'm probably not quite the target audience. As soon as they release some new Spec Ops levels, then I'll pay attention.

one nice thing, the "stimulus pack" maps are being kept separate, so you don't get kicked out if a new map comes up in the rotation while you're playing online. I used to hate that with WaW; sit there at the pregame lobby knowing you were going to get kicked out as soon as the game began.

and yet again I pay 15 bucks for another map pack from EA.  Those bastards have me hooked like a crack addict.
