I'm sure I'll be picking up some of the crossovers. I need my Flash fix, and I don't pick up the Flash's own title (thanks to some of the worst art in comics). But yeah, that's definitely overboard. But I guess I don't really care what's going on in the titles I don't buy, so I suppose that could have 100 tie-ins, and it wouldn't matter to me.
I haven't minded the art, except for the last issue, that was just awful.
I'm worried they're going to pull what they did with 'Blackest Night', where if you didn't read the main Green Lantern title you missed like a third of the story. Luckily the main Flashpoint story is only 5 issues long.
Apparently Flash #12 will be the last in the series, which really ticks me off. It's like they started the series just to intro this event. It'd be nice to just let a character have individual adventures for a few years without everything tying in to some mega-event every 6 months.
What. The. Fuck?
DC looking to relaunch everything in September
There's also a link at the bottom of the story about something called "The Dark". Is DC trying AGAIN to clear up its clusterfuck of a continuity? We saw how well that went with the past two Crisis events.
Why do comics even try to cling to any semblance of continuity? Why don't they just accept there is a fluid, dynamic universe with many different ways to tell different stories and be done with it?
I haven't read any Flashpoint yet. I picked up #2 yesterday, but passed on the half dozen or so crossovers that seemed to barely even involve the DC universe. Fucking Abin Sur has a Flashpoint crossover???? Ok then.
I read the Free Comic Book Day preview, but haven't bothered beyond that. Maybe it's good that DC is clusterfucking itself right before I head off to Germany. It makes me less sad to have to say farewell.
Comics are way, way behind in Germany, so I don't bother. They're also harder to find. They also don't have as many of the series over there, meaning you can't always get the full story.
On the other hand, Germans still have a thriving Western pulp market. The typical German Western pulp writer doesn't care as much about character as Max Brand, Luke Short, or any of the best of the vintage US bunch (or, for that matter, any of the more modern masters, like Elmer Kelton or Elmore Leonard), but it's still Western pulp. Sort of. There is a bit of a disconnect, considering these things are written in German.
I just downloaded the DC Comics app for my iPad2. Now what...... ?
I also downloaded a rather funky Jaws game in HD!
Another shitload of Flashpoint crossovers this week, which I naturally passed on. The one comic I was interested in was a revival of Supreme Power (years after being cancelled mid-story), but I didn't care for the art and passed on it as well. I ended up buying nothing, and after driving around a ton of road construction to get there.
Actually, the Flashpoint stuff I've read has been pretty good (but I've only read the Batman, Aquaman, and Captain Cold minis). I like the alternate takes on characters. Plus, each mini is only 3 issues, and the main series is only 5 issues, so it's not like it's gonna drag on.
Maybe after DC reboots.
Speaking of which, finally found a complete list of the new titles.
Also, here's 10 of the titles with covers and writing/art teams.
Looks like my DC pull list is going to expand a little. Going to start picking up JLA, Aquaman, Firestorm, and maybe Blue Beetle and Justice League Dark. As I'm already reading several of the Bat and Green Lantern titles, those aren't going to change. I did just notice that there's no mention of new Superman books yet, so we'll see what happens with those, but if it's a fresh start I might start reading him again.
That's a lot of titles!
So I'll be able to keep up my GL corps, but my recent addition of Red Robin to my pull list seems to have been wasted. I may shift it to Blue Beetle though...Beetle is awesome.
The real problem here seems to be a lack of Zatanna, which will piss me off.
Cept she might be in Justice League Dark, which I likely won't read since it sounds like a candy bar and I don't much care about any of the other characters.
John Stewart and Guy Gardener take charge of GL Corps, while Kyle Rayner takes control of the Rainbow Corps in GL New Guardians. The Red Lanterns also get their own series, which I'm on the fence about. I like them, but I can't see them carrying an ongoing series. I'm also a little miffed that Batman Beyond isn't on the list. I really hope they aren't planning on canceling it.
They also finally released the info on Action Comics #1. Ok, he's got like 3 new suits now. I hope they settle on one.
In the UK our Action Comic was something entirely different and caused an uproar. Google 'The Seven Penny Nightmare' and 'Hookjaw' to see what we were all raving about as 7 year olds in the playground. It was grim!!
There is a website called something like 'thesevenpennynightmare.com' that has all the early Hookjaw stories in all their glory.
The New Tick series is going longer and longer between issues. I hope that's not its death knell I'm hearing. Also, I wonder how well all the Flashpoint crossovers are selling. I can't imagine dropping $30 a week on all these crazy spinoffs. I might check out the Reverse Flash one shot that's out tomorrow. And I'm pretty much ignoring all the Fear Itself spinoffs also. Just picking up the main title (though haven't read any of it yet either).
I haven't been picking up many of the Flashpoint minis, just the Bats, Supes, Captain Cold and Aquaman ones (considered the Wonder Woman one but decided against it). I'll pick up the Reverse Flash one shot as well, but I think that's it.
Fear Itself has actually been pretty boring (the main title at least). Apparently you have to pick up the tie-ins (I'm not) to actually get a sense of how the event is affecting the world. The world is supposedly consumed with fear and people are going nuts, but you don't get any of that in the main title. It's been pretty blah so far.
So I passed on the Reverse Flash one shot because the art was H I D E O U S ! ! Also being passed up was the Brightest Day 3 part follow up. Just didn't look that interesting.

So Flashpoint starts next week for DC. Along with the main series, there are going to be 20 tie-in series. 20! Seems a little excessive, even for DC. I mean, I can see dong minis on the alternate versions of Bats, Supes, WW, and maybe a few others, but c'mon. Canterbury Cricket? Deadman and the Flying Graysons? Deathstroke? DC's really pushing it.
