Current Annoyances: DOS Reboot

Posted by The Swollen Goi... on Monday, September 24, 2012

That other one had too many pages. It was annoying.

I realize Dalty gave us another Current Annoyances thread a bit back, but it didn't keep with our (unspoken) theme, so I've decided it's not canon.

Just because Dalty's thread is the Never Say Never Again of the series, that doesn't mean it's a bad thread. It's Cauliflower, and not Broccoli. Cauliflower can be tasty.

Shouldn't you at least have a current annoyance to launch the new current annoyance thread with?

I'm annoyed that Goiter belives he is the arbiter of what is canon and what isn't.

yeah who do you think you are Goiter? George Lucas?

Am I being fired from the canon?

I have the beard and double chin. I've also managed to create a character everyone seems to hate.

Cauliflower and broccoli are both annoying if they turn up on my plate anywhere.

When I was younger I used to have a rule: if a vegetable had more than two syllables, I didn't like it. I got around potatoes by calling them taters, but pretty much I only liked peas, corn, beans, beets, and some squash. Now I've learned to like--really like--tomatoes and a few other things, so my rule doesn't apply any more. I still hate all those four-syllable veggies, though. Yuck.

They're not so bad... once you get to know them.

So about that song I was complaining about...

And if I sound obsessed...I am.

It came on at work again, finally. So I grabbed my phone and set it to recording. Now I can do this, and set my phone on a nearby table and it will record me talking just fine.

But when I went to check the recording of the phone...just two minutes of silence. More and more I think the song is a curse...an evil, maddening curse.

But it's given me an idea for a short story...so that's cool.

You could always insist that the tomato is a fruit. It is, after all, botanically (if not culinarily).

Negs, if you cover those four-syllable veggies with a one-syllable condiment...cheese...then they taste just fine.  Is cheese considered a condiment in this case?

(Yes, Jakester, I know condiment sounds a lot like condom.)

Have you tried checking the radio station's website (I assume you're hearing this song on the radio)? Sometimes they list the names of their most recently played songs.

You have heard this a few times now, do you remember any of the lyrics that you could post here and we can play along in the "Guess that Song" game.  I think the Grand Prize is a vacation with Dalty.  Consolation prize is changing Jubboiter's diaper.

Jubboiter's shittin' out some real nuggets these days. Could go for a fortune on the black market.

Gack. Barf. Ack. Doesn't matter how much cheese you dump on broccoli or asparagus, they still taste all nasty and bitter.

It's a workplace radio, uses specific info CDs or some crap. I took one once and it won't work on my computer.

But!

BUT!

I got the recording! It wouldn't work on my phone, but after I transfered the file to my computer, and then adjusted the file type and made it into a video it is now, mostly, hearable!

I uploaded it, along with stupid pictures, to youtube.

I'm sorry for the poor quality of the recording. Shazam keeps saying it's "Sadder day" by McKay...but it's not.

I have written out some of the lyrics, now that the recording works, and I will post them if need be.

How did you determine that the performer you're looking for is not Stephanie McKay? I found a blog that references the lyrics from the song you posted and the author claims they're from the song "Sadder Day" by Stephanie McKay, from her 2003 album entitled McKay.
http://settheweatherfair.wordpress.com/category/misery-mix/

I tried searching Google for even the slightest excerpt from the song, but it was frustratingly difficult to find anything you could listen to. Most Rapidshare and torrent links related to Stephanie McKay lead to her 2010 album, and the few that are related to the 2003 album are dead. There's an Amazon.com page for the relevant album, but it doesn't let you preview the songs.
http://www.amazon.com/Mckay/dp/B00009L841/ref=ntt_mus_ep_dpi_3/183-65319...

Do you still have access to the CDs from work that contain the songs? What exactly wasn't working? Were you unable to play the files or were you not able to see any files on the discs in the first place? If you were able to see them, could you tell which format they were in? I'm not sure what you mean by "specific info CDs." Does that mean they were in a common format, but couldn't be accessed by your computer?

I'm with Mal. I didn't bother reading any of your text or Mal's text at first. I just saw there was a YouTube link, clicked the link, selected some lyrics, immediately arrived at Stephanie McKay's "Sadder Day," found the song, gave it a listen, and said, "That's it." Then I went back, read where you said it wasn't McKay's "Sadder Day," and was left scratching my head as to why you'd say it wasn't.

She's getting some mileage out of reversing the opening notes of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata." Lennon started it with "Because."

Actually, I think she might have simply sampled and looped the opening of "Because."

I agree with these two Jraven *shudder*, I think it is the McKay song.  I'm curious to know why you think it isn't.  It's hard to tell from your recording if it is the same artist, but it is definitely the same song.

 Because I am a moron.

In my defense, shazam listed it only as 'McKay' and not 'Stephanie McKay', So when I looked for "Mckay sadder day" all I would get is this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4q2ujKNWrg

That and depressed. So very depressed.

But a huge thanks to you guys, both for finding the song and for pointing out my oversight. Guess I thought there could be only one famous person named McKay. This song has seriously been driving me crazy. Even with snippits of the lyrics I'd never find anything on the internet. I feel kind of stupid now.

Thanks again though, i'm off to see if I like the rest of her stuff.

I do have the album now that contains "Sadder Day," since I had to download the entire album to get the song. If you want I could share that with you via Dropbox or some other means of online transfer.

No reason to be down on yourself Jraven.  We've all done things that, looking back all we can say is "duh"!  I certainly did not  intend to point out an oversight, so I apologize if it sounded like that.

I got paid today for last month's work. Roughly $1,335.

A few minutes ago, I got my tuition bill for the semester: $845. Rent's due Monday. That's another $375.

That leaves me $115. If I go this month without eating or using electricity, I should be able to cover Jubboiter's formula and still have $55 left over. (Fuck diapers. we'll just let her sleep in her own shit. She'll be fine, as long as she doesn't eat any of it.) The cover charge for my high school reunion is $20. That'll leave me $35 to pay my Best Buy bill.

Apparently, I missed my last payment (I guess I got distracted with the baby being on the way and the university dicking me around), so the minimum payment is up from the usual $35-ish bucks (which would have been perfect, considering the $35 I'd have left over) to a whopping $93. That takes my paycheck down to a cool $-58. It's a good thing I still have $180 left over from my last amazingly generous paycheck. That'll leave me $122. I'll be able to eat after all!

Or, I could just mooch off Jubbers. She makes more on maternity leave than I do working my two shitty jobs.

You're married! What's hers is yours, what's yours is hers (including your debts!), so don't feel too bad for mooching off her.
