Double dip indeed!
Thanks for the info Drake, I haven't had cable for years so I only catch a couple of Monday night games per season.
Now, what do you think the odds are the ref lockout will be over before week 5? :p
Red, let me try to recreate my post.
I have not read up on the ref lockout, so I don't even know why they are striking. I never could understand how NFL refs could expect to do this job as a part-time job. Most of them are retired, so how can a 65-year old man keep up with 20-somethings and expect his old eyes to catch every call? That is why they had to go to instant replay and extend games. If they used instant replay more like the NBA instead of on every stinking play, maybe they could finish a game in less than 3.5 hours.
I have always been of the opinion that NFL refs should be full-time jobs, should require a certain number of hours of training and that the refs should be required to spend time at team practices in their hometown. Does anyboy knw, are MLB and NBA refs full-time positions? Why aren't NFL refs full-time?
I just figured the NFL didn't want them to be full time, or else they would be. It's lighter on the NFL's payroll and benefits if they are part time, we all know those joker executives at the top are making cash hand over fist but they'll cheap out on "unprofitable" labor - a ref will not be a draw for a clothing line or get Nike endorsements.
Uh, the refs already make 6 figures for their part time job, and clearly they are easily replaceable. My advice would be for th refs to take that 6 figure salary and shut up.
I agree, Hicks, that they should take their salary and shut up. And you are helping my point, how many part time jobs pay 6 figures?

They've done that for the past few years. An early game on the East Coast and a late game on the West Coast. I think it is the NFL's way of recognizing that the West Coast gets screwed most of the season because the Monday night game starts at 6pm for them. Plus, it is the one time they can double dip on the advertising and monopolize the airways for 7-8 hours during primetime.
