'Game of Thrones' series Greenlighted

Posted by Jack S. Pharaoh on Tuesday, March 2, 2010

Holy fuck, yes. I know this means nothing to almost everyone here, but I've been waiting for this since the book series was first optioned three years ago. They even released the first production still, a shot apparently from the prologue of the book. So, yes, people, deal with me starting random threads and forcing irrelevant knowledge upon you. This is how Jack does business, aggresively and in a pompous third-person. Pray I never decide to educate the lot of you about pregnancy.

Yeah, I saw that; kinda cool. The pic on GRRM's blog links to a larger, higher resolution picture. I also read an interview with that actress recently, which was kind of funny.

This is Somerset wrote:

Maisie said: "My first love is dancing and I have been a member of the Sue Hill School of Dance for a while and enjoy it so much. I was encouraged by Sue to take part in a showcase in France where a number of VIPs from the entertainment industry were watching in the audience. From that audition I got an agent who put me forward for this role.

"First we filmed a pilot episode to see if HBO in America liked it and they did so we went on to film the whole series."

Filming began in June last year with Maisie travelling between locations in Northern Ireland, Malta and Morocco.

The dedicated teenager went to great lengths to ensure she captured the character perfectly, even learning to sword fight with her left hand despite being right handed.

She said: "My character is a real tomboy and sword fighting is important. They also asked me to learn to ride a horse but I haven't had to do that yet.

"Everyone I worked with was really nice. Sean Bean seemed quite shy when he wasn't acting, he was usually sat reading a book but was so friendly and helpful whenever I spoke to him. I think he is a great role model for young actors. Everything he did was just right and worked perfectly for his character."

The young actress said she was surprised to see her face on giant posters in Bristol and Bath.

She said: "A friend of my mum's rang to say she had seen the posters so we went down to have a look and to take my picture in front of it. My friends have been really supportive. They find it all just as strange as I do!"

I didn't realize her character was left handed. Seems kind of silly to expend extra effort for a detail like that.

Yeah, I think it's an odd choice; nothing she does in the first book would cause an issue, I think, but in the second or third season she might have to suddenly become right-handed. I wouldn't be surprised to see her use both hands in the first season, though. I think she got the whole left-handed idea from crazy fans who mentioned it to her on twitter, or at Martin's book signing in Dublin last year.

That reminds me of when I was reading a (long) list of inconsistencies/errors in the first Spider-man movie, one of the inconsistencies/errors was that a hand was shown sketching Spider-man's costume, and it was a right hand, whereas Toby was left-handed, so it obviously wasn't Toby doing the sketching. I found that to be particularly amusing. I thought "Has Spider-man the character ever been portrayed as being either left or right handed?" I can't even tell from watching the movies which hand he favors. More than likely, after receiving his spider powers, he's become ambidextrous.

But I guess if their point was that it obviously wasn't Toby's hand drawing the sketch, we probably didn't need any telltale evidence to assume that was the case.

Did they point out that the CGI Spider-Man also obviously wasn't Toby? The CGI Toby wasn't Toby, either. Continuity error!

The scenes in 'Labyrinth' where David Bowie is seen rotating three crystal balls on the fingertips of one hand is also a continuity error, as there is no way Bowie is capable of that (I'm sure there are far fewer people on the planet who can pull that off compared to how many can draw a picture) and that is obviously not his arm/hand.

Those scenes may have been listed. I didn't read the entire list. (It was long list.)

Yeah, she's 13 or 14, I think.

Here's an article about why the show may be a success.

The Making Game of Thrones website has been posting up a behind-the-scenes video almost every week, I think, and this one might be my favorite: it focuses on Maisie Williams and her character, Arya Stark.

I started reading "A Game of Thrones."  It is not boring.

Apparently Margaret John, the actress cast in the role of Old Nan in season 1 of 'Game of Thrones', has died.  Now Martin's gonna have to kill that character in the books, just to be consistent with the show!  RIP.

I will now proceed to hunt down and kill the actor playing Rickon Stark in the show.
