I feel sorry for the folks who paid for memberships and never once downloaded illegal material. Sure, that probably only accounts for 0.01% of members. But still!

Damn, that sucks. At least RapidShare is still around.
To be honest, I can't really be mad about MegaUpload getting shut down. Much of what was stored on their servers was copyrighted material that pretty much anybody could access. Like the title of the article says, who needs SOPA when they're getting this shit done even without it?
Pretty soon that Dotcom guy and his cronies are going to be experiencing a new type of megaupload . . . in their bums.
Everyone knows that prison rapists have huge wienies.
Apparently you have to either beat someone up on the first day, or become somebody's ass-bitch.
I don't think I am cut out for prison life.
You gained your massive fortune through entirely legal means, I hope?
As a US Copyright holder, I can see their desire to stop piracy. But these bills were terribly and vaguely written and could easily lead to abuse.
Filesonic's turned off their sharing features, obviously because of the megaupload dealie. Now only the person who uploaded the file can download it. So now it's useless.
The folks at the tehparadox message board (one of the best places to find a lot of the stuff you usually only find as torrents) are pretty upset about it. A whole bunch of folks just got premium accounts within the last couple of weeks.
On the upside, looks like RapidShare has leveraged the whole situation into a big comeback.
They released this statement on their Facebook page earlier in the day, wherein they defended the legality of their service and assured folks they would be going nowhere. Also, they're Swiss. You don't fuck with the Swiss.
What do you mean by "comeback?" Were they gone? I thought that it was still one of the most recognizable file storage sites on the Web (even though, or perhaps because, 4channers refer to it as RapidShit).
Non-members had quit using it because of the long wait times, and because files were getting recognized and taken down a lot. Also, non members have to deal with extremely low daily download limits. There have been a few times in the past where I'd get five of the seven parts of a file downloaded, wait a day to download the rest, then find out when trying to download the next day that the files had been removed.
It's a miracle when someone on tehparadox uses it, but I rejoice when they do. (Though some of tehparadox's RapidShare fans have stepped out from the shadows in the last few days to do a celebratory dance. There are three or four new threads on the board singing long unsung RapidShare praises.) You have to be pretty quick on the draw, though. A FileJungle file might hang around for months, but you often only have a window of an hour or two to download a RapidShare file.
RapidShare files download the fastest. I know a few sites that hand out usernames and passwords for other file-sharing sites like candy, so I've been able to experience premium versions of those. RapidShare trumps all of them where speedy downloads are concerned.
Some of the cleverer folks make the RS link an https link, or use various methods of file name filtration URL redirection.
Depending on what it is I'm trying to download, it can be tricky finding it on RapidShare. RS links to music albums very often turn out to be broken. Links to TV show episodes almost always work. I can never figure out the movies. I think some studios are more vigilant than others when it comes protecting their property. Sometimes it's older movies that don't have any working links available, which surprises me every time it happens.
There really seems to be a cascade affect. The options for dling tv shows is severely limited now. Wupload seems to have every link disabled, assumably for copyright reasons. Megashares always bombs out aftering dling a couple of megabytes. And Netload always wants to take at least 11 hours to dl. It's really starting to suck!
I think the Filesonic people own Wupload.
Create an account with tehparadox. They're pretty good about putting up links hosted by the best available sites.
The sites that are currently working the best (for me) are rapidshare, depositfile, uploading.com, and filefactory.
Or you could all buy stuff instead of stealing it?
(can open.... worms everywhere)
I'm only trying to watch TV shows I missed. Don't wanna pay for 'em. They were just on TV for freevee!
Also, I make about four-hundred Euros a month.
I guess I could try to sell Jubboiter on the black market for some extra cash.
Jubbers ought to bake that thing a little faster.
The more exotic the middle name, the higher the selling point on the black market. I'm just sayin'.

Kim Dotcom would disagree with you on the count. Courts and lawmakers seem to have come a long way from "even if most people usea VCR to infringe on copyright, it has a legitimate purpose, so it must be allowed" to "since you CAN use this technology to infringe, we must ban it!"
