Costner's bit was good. Maybe a little out of character for Pa Kent, maybe not. He handled the ambivalance well. He wants to protect his boy, but he wants his boy to do what's right. I feel like he put a lot in those two lines. Good going, Costner.

Not a fan of the constant dark blue filter, but I recognize it's just Snyder being Snyder-y. Not a fan of the super-heaviness of it all. Not a fan of the outfit, but I'm usually able to look past outfits I dislike if I like the character and the movie around them. Really, really not a fan of the music. Action looks solid. No speed ramping visible. A little slowmo evident, but everybody slowmos.

I'm gonna give this one a chance.

Well, I'm gonna try.

I like the 'worlds to big' with ears covered.  Seems like his ability to hear a lot more than mortal man is played well.  Like Ma Kent's coaching and concern.

Love Costner's line re: letting people die.  Out of character for Pa Kent?  In character for a parent in that situation.

And don't forget even Glenn Ford's Pa wanted his son to keep his secrets.

The "world's too big" bit felt precious to me and too proudly aware of itself. It felt like an adult writing for a kid in a way that's meant to be rife with embedded meaning. (Ma Kent's response, which could have tempered it a bit, made it even worse.) It reminded me of the "Father! Mother! Always you wrestle inside me!" quote from Tree of Life. It was less hilariously bad than the Tree of Life quote, but it still reminded me of it. Maybe it'll work better in context.

It'll probably be built around one of those generic scenes where a super-powered individual hears water drops landing in a sink and sounding like an explosion. We may also get some zooms showing us leg hairs on a gnat or something.

I think you're pretty much re-saying what I said where the Pa Kent quote is concerned.

"Pa! Ma! Always you wrestle inside me!"

I bet Snyder was feeling dejected when he wasn't finding Sucker Punch on 2011 best of lists. Tree of Life kept popping up, though. "I could do that!" he said to himself. "I'm artsy and shit! Wait'll you guys fuckin' see how goddamn blowy the grass I film is gonna be. That grass is gonna be blowy all up in your uncultured asses! Fuck you all! I'm a goddamn master!"

Whilst the latest Linkin' Park effort plays in his den?

My point was that I don't think it is out of character for Pa Kent, unless Pa Kent is out of character for fathers.

I hope the music they used for the trailer isn't the main type of music used in the movie. Movies used to have memorable scores, and John Williams' Superman theme is one of the most memorable and elegant among them. It would be nice to get more in this new movie than some seemingly unstructured melody sung by an ethereal voice or choral arrangement. But, you know, it can't be EPIC otherwise.

I get your point.

I added some stuff around the "world's too big" section of my above post. You should go back and read it, lest you be deprived of even the tiniest sliver of the ongoing beautification of my proses past, present, and future.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Goits doesn't like Snyder very much. There is no evidence to support that guess, though. Not at all.

I showed the trailer to my son. I'm unsure whether he liked it or not. He was more aghast that it wasn't coming out until 2013, which was "so far away!" I pointed out that it'll be 2013 in less than a month.

In your son's defense, he's lived through way fewer months than you have. Thirty days accounts for a hefty percentage of his days lived.

A month accounts for a third of Jubboiter's life outside the womb.

I don't dislike Snyder. I've never even met him. True, I've disliked all of his movies so far, and true, I've disliked his comic movies in particular. It irks me that he was the one who got a Watchmen movie off the ground. I really, really like that comic. I'm also a pretty big Superman fan. A man who makes movies I dislike is, yet again, making a movie using characters I like.

I can deal with it. There've been plenty of Superman comics written by writers I dislike. Ol' Straczynski did some Supes. It was awful. Still, my love for the character weathered its awfulness.

Looks like Superman is going to explore his sexuality in this one. Good for him.

I wonder when Clark figures out how to shave. Pa Kent probably can't teach him because the razor blade will either break on his facial hair or dull on his impenetrable skin. He can probably use his heat vision to burn off the hair, but if it's powerful enough to burn the hair, isn't it also powerful enough to burn his skin and leave his face scarred? Not to mention the trigonometric calculations involved in bouncing the heat rays off some kind of reflective crystal surface! (I figure the heat vision is most likely strong enough to melt a mirror made of mere glass.)

This trailer raises questions upon questions! I sure hope they're actually addressed in the movie.

Wow, those three panels address pretty much all of my questions. The only remaining question is why Supes is explaining the process to himself.

I know you're asking a rhetorical question, but they were having him do it for the benefit of audience. Stubbly Supes is one of the post-Crisis on Infinite Earth retcons. It was one of many little tweaks to help sell some of the bigger tweaks.

Before Crisis, it was loosely established that his beard never came in under the yellow sun, and that his nails and hair stopped growing once they reached a certain length. (This is kinda silly when I look at Jubboiter's teensy baby nails and realize that as her finger bones broaden as she grows the nail will grow out and broaden. The nails have to grow out over the course of years before they begin broadening to match the width of the finger. If Supes had kept any part of his baby nails, it would look pretty dumb when he got older.) I say "loosely" because the dude has been appearing monthly in multiple titles since 1938. There were dozens of slips along the way--same as with Batman and guns. I've read that Jimmy Olsen cut his hair once with plain scissors back in the pre-Crisis days, but I don't think I've seen the particular issue.

There are no slip ups in comics. Everything is explainable. The Jimmy Olson scenario was likely in the presence of a red sun, so Superman's hair was rendered normal. Or the scissors had been exposed to a red sun for a long period of time and contained red sun residue. In the panels above, Superman was very likely recovering from amnesia, and he had written all that shit on the inside of that piece of metal in case he ever got amnesia and needed to remember how to shave. And naturally, he's reading it to himself as he follows the instructions.

"Where's my underwear? What happened to my spit curl? Why does my girlfriend look old enough to be my mother? Will humans still respect me if my hair continues to recede? Why's my cape so damned long? If my adoptive dad builds it, will they come?"

1. At home being washed.

2. It got sheared off by my heat vision before I learned pinpoint accuracy.

3. Because I stopped aging. She didn't.

4. Because it would be indestructable, my cape had to be fashioned when I first landed on earth and was still a baby. They thought I'd be taller.

5. No.

Meh. Most of the trailer focuses on the origin story. I know all that already, you're not showing me anything different about Clark Kent. The last bit gives me no idea what the Superman part of the movie is about.

I'll only go see this if the reviews are good. So, I'm probably not seeing this.
