Amber Tamblyn has been cast as the girlfriend of James Franco's character in the picture. Best remembered for her role in the CBS drama Joan of Arcadia, and for playing the younger sister of Sarah Michelle Gellar in The Grudge 2, Tamblyn will be seen in flashbacks during the course of the story. Her memory will keep hope alive for Franco's desperate hiker trapped on a mountainside.

Danny Boyle will follow his 2008 Academy Award-winning Best Director turn for Slumdog Millionaire with 127 Hours, a dramatic thriller based on the harrowing true account of mountaineer Aron Ralston and his near fatal accident in May 2003. While climbing a canyon by himself, Ralston's right forearm became trapped underneath a boulder and he couldn't free himself. After five days of struggle the adventurer had to make the harrowing decision to save his life by amputating his own arm using a dull knife and then hike out of the canyon to find help.
Boyle has already written an outline and his Millionaire screenwriter Simon Beaufoy is in talks to write the screenplay. The film will be financed by Fox Searchlight and Pathe. Production is scheduled to commence in 2010 for a release late in the year. Ryan Gosling is rumored to be a candidate for the part of Ralston. [Full story]
