Universal Pictures has, again, pushed back the release of 47 Ronin. This time the delay is even longer: the picture has been taken from out of its February 2013 opening berth to a new Christmas Day '13 release.
Why so long? The talk is that more reshoots are required, and extra attention is needed on creating more special effects for an elaborate battle scene that comes near the end of the picture.

47 Ronin has been moved from release this year and given a new opening date of February 8, 2013. That's less than four months difference between the picture's original November 2012 date and its new one. Officially, the word for the move is that the studio needs more time to complete the complicated 3D effects.

Ridley Scott protege Carl Erik Rinsch is closing in on a deal that will see him direct 47 Ronin for Universal Pictures. Keanu Reeves is attached to play a half-Japanese samurai who leads other masterless warriors of his kind (called ronin) on a mission to avenge the death of their slain master.
Rinsch has won accolades for his imaginative commercials for such companies as Mercedes, Sprite, BMW and Heineken. This will be his first feature length project. The screenplay is by Chris Morgan (Wanted).
