Slowly, ever so slowly, Warner Bros. is putting together the pieces for its remake of Arthur. First made as a 1981 comedy that starred Dudley Moore as a rich drunk and John Gielgud as his long-suffering butler, the studio with a shield logo has had Russell Brand attached to play the part of the new Arthur. Now WB has a director and he comes from the realm of television.
Jason Winer is the director and he's got some heat coming from his stint on ABC's new sitcom Modern Family. Winer has directed 10 episodes of the freshman comedy which has been warmly received by TV critics and audiences.
The new Arthur movie has been in development for over a year, with Brand running attached to it for the better part of a trip around the sun. A guy by the name of Peter Baynham has written the screenplay for the modern Arthur. Baynham was a producer on Borat as well as one of the people that helped hatch the story along with Sasha Baron Cohen.
