ScriptShadow has pubished its review of Richard Kelly's The Box screenplay, deeming that it's "worth the read". The review dives into the first and second act spoilers but doesn't touch anything in act three. What the reviewer didn't like was Kelly's dialogue for his characters and at times the reviewer felt that the writer was more interested in creating a brooding atmosphere than making the story progress naturally.

"It gets really confusing as characters start to deliver cryptic lines of dialogue about Pandora and Prometheus," writes reviewer Roger Belfour. "I feel like that it may be a substitute for unclear characterization, because, in the first half of the story you have a good feel for who these people are, but once we derail into bizarro world it’s like we’re no longer dealing with characters so much as automatons that recite and reference other works of literature."

Win Butler of the band Arcade Fire gave an interview with Pitchfork and talked about the band's soundtrack for The Box. "It's kind of Hitchcocky, movie, orchestral, Mellotron stuff. It's instrumental music. No songs. It's interesting. We didn't really think we were going to do the whole thing, and then it just kind of was easier once we got in. It was like, 'Oh well, we'll just keep going.' It has so much to do with the editing, and your job is just to help the director. It's a very different experience."

Shrek star Cameron Diaz has been cast in the main role in The Box. She will play the suburban housewife who finds herself and her husband faced with a grave moral quandary: press a button and receive one million dollars with no strings attached but know that a stranger's life was taken in exchange for the money. The movie has a $30 million dollar budget.

"My hope is to make a film that is incredibly suspenseful and broadly commercial, while still retaining my artistic sensibility," said director Richard Kelly to Variety.
