This just looks way too cool. I think Selick's style is perfect for this story in a way that live action would not be. And really, Gaiman can do no wrong. Yes yes, I'm sure his wife would disagree, but I mean from a literary prespective (yes, yes, I'm sure his editor would disagree, but STFU).

There's a Coraline banner ad over on Garth's site. I actually watched it. It's got two characters from the movie discussing which one is better, and they actually mention that they're doing a banner ad. It's pretty funny. Granted, I don't think it's true to the overall tone of the movie, but it was pretty durn funny! If you see a Coraline banner ad, do check it out. And, for Zarquon's sake, go see the movie!

Zowie! Saw it last night and absolutely loved it! My daughter was engrossed, and got very scared towards the end.
The animation was spectacular, the cast was really great, and I quite liked the changes Selick made with the story. The worked really well.
However, my daughter had a really qood question. If the Other Mother was locked behind the door at the beginning of the movie, how did she get the doll back to remake it into a little Coraline? The Doll was at the grandmother's house, not even in the apartments. I don't have any sort of remotely good answer for that, and it is a rather large flaw in the story unless you can just accept that "oh, she just got it." Apparently, my daughter can't.
