"To clarify: any Doctor Who movie would be made by the BBC team, star the current TV Doctor and certainly NOT be a Hollywood reboot," said Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat last night on his Twitter account.

A spokesperson for BBC Films has confirmed that a "script is in development" for a feature length Doctor Who movie while the TV show remains on the air. However, no further details were given by the Beeb such as when the movie would ever go into production, who is the person(s) writing it, what the storyline concerns or what version of The Doctor would appear in the tale.

If a 21st century Who movie does get made it will mark the second time that the Gallifreyian Time Lord has appeared on the big screen. Peter Cushing played the Doctor in a 1966 movie called Invastion Earth: 2150 A.D.
