Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis have both signed on to the sequel in what's being called "sizeable" roles. Both action stars appeared in cameo parts in the original Expendables as old rivals/buddies of Sylvester Stallone's character. How the trio of '80s action stars will share the screen in Expendables 2 remains to be uncovered.

Martial arts action star Donnie Yen has been offered a role in the Expendables sequel, reportes Twitchfilm. The site states that Yen will only seriously consider accepting the part, which is said to have been written just for him, until after he reads the current draft of the screenplay.
Production on The Expendables 2 is scheduled to kick off in October.

After searching for a director to call the shots on the sequel, Simon West has landed the job to direct The Expendables 2. West is a veteran action film director, debuting with 1997's Con Air before moving on to helm the first Tomb Raider movie and the Jason Statham remake of The Mechanic.

Sylvester Stallone has officially stated that he won't be directing The Expendables 2. He'll star in the sequel but won't call the shots behind the camera this time.
Rumors had surfaced that Stallone had indeed agreed to direct the second movie, but as we now know those reports were incorrect.

An August 17, 2012 release date has been slotted for the sequel. At the present time there are no other films targeting that weekend for their release, but as the months count down that will change.

With The Expendables now within striking range of $100 million dollars at the domestic box office, Sylvester Stallone is talking about the sequel. He just logged on to Twitter and among his first tweets was this gem:
"Had dinner with Bruce Willis last night. I want him in EXPENDABLES II as a super villain. What do you think?"
