Magnolia Pictures' genre specialty branch Magnet Releasing will distribute Survival of the Dead in 2010. Full press release follows:

New York - December 18, 2009 - The Wagner/Cuban Companies' Magnet Releasing, genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, announced today that it has
acquired US rights to GEORGE A. ROMERO'S SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD, the latest in the legendary and beloved series of zombie films which bowed
at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals earlier this year. Romero, one of the most influential and respected horror auteurs of all time, has
created a new, terrifying vision that combines viscerally gory undead action with biting social commentary and a return to the black humor and
playfulness of his seminal film, Dawn of the Dead. Magnet will release the film as part of its Ultra VOD program this spring, debuting it on
VOD platforms nationwide a month before its theatrical release.

Like its predecessors, GEORGE A. ROMERO'S SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD takes place in a desperate, nightmarish world where the dead walk the earth,
relentlessly attacking the living. It is the story of Plum Island - a beautiful refuge whose isolation allows two powerful families to
maintain a semblance of order in the wake of the zombie holocaust. But as the inhabitants slowly die off, the two clans become sharply divided:
the O'Flynns believe that the undead must be destroyed without exception, while the Muldoons insist that afflicted loved ones be kept
"alive" until a cure is found. The result is an escalating showdown with echoes of a classic Western stand-off that erupts in brutality and
violence.

"George A. Romero is an undisputed cinematic legend, and we're honored to be bringing another installment of this incredible series of films to
horror fans," said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles. "Survival is smart, extremely fun and a worthy addition to the Of the Dead franchise."

Says Romero, "I'm a big admirer of the team at Magnolia. They're creative and passionate, and I'm excited to put Survival in their
hands."

The deal was negotiated by Magnolia's Senior Vice President Tom Quinn with Victoria Cook for Cinetic Media, on behalf of Art Spigel and Ara
Katz of Artfire Films and Peter Grunwald of Romero-Grunwald Productions.

George Romero's new zombie movie has finally received an official title and it's George A. Romero's Survival of the Dead. Voltage Pictures, the international sales/finance company backing Romero's new zombie movie, is hosting a trailer for the movie on its website. The trailer looks like it's been cut as an advance preview, perhaps to whet the interest of distrubution companies for oversea sales, and so is more loose in its presentation than a formal theatrical trailer. Watch it for yourself and see what we mean.

They may not be the most exciting spy photos of a movie set that you've ever laid your eyes on but AICN has four shots taken by a local resident of Port Dover, Ontario, of the production for Romero's latest zombie movie. The two most interesting: a blurry shot of the director in a red shirt and a snap of a ferry taking people to "Slaughter Beach". Gee, is that foreshadowing?

The island setting for George Romero's sixth zombie film has been confirmed by Variety in an article talking about the project's start of filming. The magazine states that the story "involves inhabitants of an isolated island off the North American coast who find their relatives rising from the dead to eat their kin. The leaders of the island feud over whether or not to kill their reanimated relatives or preserve them in hopes of finding a cure."

Variety also gives us more important facts including the roll call of actors (Alan Van Sprang, Kenneth Welsh, Kathleen Munroe, Devon Bostick, Richard Fitzpatrick, Stefano Colcitti and Athena Karkanis) and producers (there are five other exec producers besides Romero.)

And there's still no title for the flick.

A trio of movie websites have gathered nuggets about what the premise is for this new zombie movie that Romero is about to shoot. First up is MovieSet who interviewed the financier handling the international sales for the movie; he revealed that there will be underwater zombies and that the film still doesn't have an official title yet.

Next came Shlock Around the Clock who had the opportunity to interview Romero while he was visiting Australia. Of the new film's premise, Romero said:

"It'll be about three weeks in [past the outbreak] and it doesn't start with the people in the mansion [at the end of Diary]. It starts with the blonde who drove away and the national guardsmen who robbed the people. So those are the only characters that return. What it's about is tribalism. How the internet creates a Hatfields and McCoys situation. It's on an island, where people have been lured by someone on the net as a safe haven, but really what these guys are trying to do is hold them up at the boat docks."

Finally Bloody Disgusting has learned the name of the first cast member: he's Alan Van Sprang, he had a role in Saw III but more importantly he played a colonel in Diary of the Dead.

Romero tells Dread Central that a first draft of his sequel to Diary of the Dead is done and he's about to begin tightening it up. One piece of info revealed: the new movie starts off following "the girl that took off" at the end of Diary.

At a Park City, Utah screening of Diary of the Dead, George Romero was interviewed by Shock Till You Drop and revealed that he has an idea for a direct sequel to his latest zombie movie. "This would be the first time, if it happens, that I will do a direct continuation," Romero said. "Those same characters from Diary will come out of that room [we left them in] and will march on. There was a lot I wanted to say that I couldn't squeeze in."

Even before the release of Diary of the Dead there is talk about a sixth zombie movie in Romero's repertoire. The legendary horror director spoke with Bloody Disgusting and spilled the news that if his new movie is a commercial success The Weinstein Company is already interested in seeing a follow-up which would move the story past the conclusion at the end of Diary. However, the site is quick to say that Romero doesn't presently have any plans to move quickly on a sequel to Diary right now and that he could just as easily work on a number of other projects he has in development.
