A reader reminded us that Christopher Lambert announced as of January that he has joined cast of the Ghost Rider sequel. This announcement came after a notice on the official Highlander Facebook page that he was being considered for a role in the movie. Since the announcement there's been no word who Lambert is playing or the extent of the part, but apparently (and appropriately) it will involve swords.

Ciaran Hinds (There Will Be Blood) joins the cast of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance while Idris Elba (Thor) and Johnny Whitworth (Gamer) are in talks to join the sequel. Hinds plays the Devil, the central villain at the heart of the film, who hatches a plan to take over the body of his mortal son on his birthday. Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider is asked by an eastern European sect to stop the Devil.
The movie is set to start filming in Romania and Turkey come November.

Crank filmmakers Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor are in talks to direct Ghost Rider 2 for Sony, which the studio hopes will be shooting come the fall. Negotiations are also underway with star Nicolas Cage. It's unknown whether the deal would also see the filmmakers perform a rewrite on David Goyer's screenplay, or if anyone else from the first Ghost Rider will be back in the second film.

It looks like movement is starting to happen on a sequel to Columbia Pictures' Ghost Rider movie. Talks have opened with screenwriter/director David Goyer to act as a story consultant on the sequel and supervise the writing of a screenplay by a different writer. It's expected that Nicolas Cage will reprise his role as cursed stunt motorcycle rider Johnny Blaze. [Full story]
