Yesterday Paramount Pictures showed off five minutes worth of select highlights from G.I. Joe to assembled journalists and film biz people in Sydney, Australia. On hand was Dark Horizons creator Garth Franklin to watch and deliver his thoughts on the material. Franklin's detailed synopsis illuminates us on more than a few story spoilers including what kind of technology the Joes and Cobra both have to play around with.
"The verdict? With much of the FX unfinished it is too early to make any real judgement call," writes Garth in his summation. "Ultimately it is what it is - a Stephen Sommers film. Like Baz Luhrmann on speed, the man is about as subtle as a sledgehammer and so everything in this is huge and explosive in a visually impressive but utterly over the top and often quite silly way.
"Sadly nothing shown here indicates he has learned any lessons from his last two disappointments, but considering much of it was quick cut shots with only the barest hint of dialogue - I'd love to be proven wrong on that judgement call."

One of the biggest secrets that the G.I. Joe movie makers have been keeping closely guarded is what Destro will look like when he's seen wearing his metal mask. Now it looks like that secret is revealed courtesy of the Topless Robot website.
TR has a screengrab of what they claim is the masked Destro in motion. The site adds that it's a low resolution image and that the final product will look better and cleaner once it's seen in motion on the screen, which makes sense to us. Our two cents is that it's hard to get a take on if this final version of the movie Destro's looks cool or not; we've also got to see the CG trick in motion before proclaiming our judgment on the special effect. Still, if this is what we can expect to see in the Joe movie, the cinematic Destro's look is very faithful to the one we remember from the animated TV show and comic books.

The HISS Tank has been at the forefront of breaking exclusive images and info about the G.I. Joe movie and their latest gem was a plethora of images from the upcoming movie file cards. Not only were there images of Duke, Scarlett, Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, The Baroness and other Joes/Cobras, there were also images of an anonymous Cobra soldier, Zartan and The Doctor, Cobra members that we had never seen before. The site had the images up for a day before they got served a cease and desist from Hasbro but, of course, since this is the internet the movie card images have traveled everywhere -- like here, here, here and here.

Last evening Entertainment Tonight had the briefest of previews for the first trailer for G.I. Joe. Mainly the promo was to inform the viewers that Paramount would be premiering the new Joe trailer during Sunday's Superbowl, so, you know, head's up.
If you want to see the E.T. snippet, The Movie Box has uploaded the video on YouTube.

The HISS Tank fansite has posted four images showing two of the upcoming M.A.R.S. Troopers figures from the movie. So are these guys to Cobra what the Stormtroopers are to the Empire or what?
