Future Girl with the Dragon Tattoo sequels will be done cheaper

News flash: the American remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo wasn't a hit. While David Fincher didn't director an out-and-out bomb, his Dragon Tattoo movie that starred Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara could only scrounge up $230 million dollars worldwide ($102 mil domestic.)

If still-struggling MGM is to make the following two sequels in Steig Larsson's Millennium trilogy of crime suspense novels, they'll have to be done cheaper than The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

First look at the new Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Right now David Fincher is busy calling the shots directing the American remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Daniel Craig is playing the part of journalist Mikael Blomkvist while Roomey Mara (A Nightmare on Elm Street) is playing Lisbeth Salander, the punk hacker who teams with Mikael. Today the first image of Mara dressed in her role has surfaced, and it's appearing on this month's cover of W magazine as part of a visit to the film's set.
