Traditionally, movie studios take the approach of releasing their films to international audiences spread out over several months. Only the big event movies tend to have their releases clustered together. By spreading out the release dates of a film, the movie studio's marketing department is better able to size up and create a marketing campaign that is tailored to that country and the different tastes of its audience.

Case in point: Warner Bros. released Green Lantern in Brazil last Friday, on August 19, two months after its North American release. As part of the marketing campaign for the film, the studio hired cyclists to take to the streets of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo at night. Affixed to the rims and spokes of their bicycle wheels were green LED lights that, when the cyclist was riding his or her bike, created words and the familiar Green Lantern symbol across the bike's wheels.

Viral marketing works, and as movie studios look to new ways to snag the attention of people, this kind of marketing campaign for Green Lantern will be used more and more as time goes on. Still, would Hal Jordan be seen cycling on the way to work?

Michael Clarke Duncan was a guest on G4's Attack of the Show yesterday and he brought a clip showing us his CG character Kilowog in action. The combat trainer of the Lantern Corps, Kilowog is a big, reptilian-looking alien with a gruff attitude. In the clip they showed, Duncan got to utter Kilowog's most famous word: "Poozer." Check it out below:

Latino Review broke the casting news first last month and now The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed it: Michael Clarke Duncan will provide the voice for Green Lantern corps member Kilowog.

The big actor, known for his beefy size and deep voice, portrayed another comic book character in 2003's Daredevil, namely The Kingpin.

Kilowog is the corps' drill instructor and provides training to the rookie Lanterns that are new to the force.

Hal Jordan will receive some of his tutoring in being a member of the Green Lantern guy from Geoffrey Rush. Most recently nominated for a Best Supporting Actor for his part in The King's Speech, Rush will provide the voice of Tomar-Re, the bird-like Lantern that helps teach Hal some of the ways to use his Green Lantern ring power.

This image comes from the newest issue of Green Lantern and shows us the clearest look so far at Tomar-Re, one of the alien Green Lantern Corpsmen we'll see in the movie. A description of the character also accompanied the image and was first posted online here:

Growing up on the planet Xudar, Tomar-Re comes from a peaceful avian race that focuses their efforts on the arts and sciences instead of war. His nature to examine everything has led the Guardians of the Universe to appoint him the archivist and protector of the sacred Book of Oa. When not studying the nature of the Corps, Tomar-Re patrols the sector of 2813 where he developed a close friendship with neighboring sector 2814's Green Lantern, Abin Sur. Tomar has taken an interest in Abin's replacement, Hal Jordan. Though Hal is not one for details, Tomar hopes to teach Hal what it means to be a Green Lantern.

Yesterday the Scream 2010 Awards were taped. While the show won't be broadcast until tomorrow evening, the winners have been revealed and one of them is Warner Bros.' forthcoming Green Lantern movie. Even though the movie is still half-a-year away from being released it won the "Most Anticipated Movie" category. Star Ryan Reynolds accepted the award on a Green Lantern-themed stage.

Photos of Reynolds on the stage are on Just Jared's website and there's another goodie out there this morning: your first look at a leaked photograph of the Green Lantern power battery. It does look more alien in its appearance than the one Hal Jordan uses in the comic book.

That insectoid you see to the left is the Green Lantern known as Bzzd. An alien house fly, Bzzd is one of the many supporting Green Lantern Corps members being transported from the comic book into the Green Lantern movie. As was the case with the Kilowog leaked photo, this one comes from Comic Book Movie website.

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 posted this shot of what they claim is the final design for Kilowog in the Green Lantern movie. If you're not up on your GL roster, Kilowog is the drill instructor for the Green Lantern Corp. An alien hailing from Bolovax Vik, his gruff exterior is a projection to toughen up rookie Lanterns and give them the skills to survive as Corpsmen. Kilowog is one of the more popular supporting characters in the Green Lantern universe.
