Peter Berg told MTV that Charlize Theron will for sure be coming back in the Hancock sequel, leaving the door open for more superhero fallibility to take place in movie #2. Berg also told the outlet that he has plans to introduce a new superpowered character in Hancock 2.
"We have [someone in mind]," Berg was quoted as saying. "I'm not gonna tell you who, but we have!"

Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara have been hired to write the screenplay for Hancock 2. Details on the film's premise are being withheld but THR reports that the scribes are working with Will Smith and director Peter Berg to flesh out the world of superpowered people just touched upon in the first movie.
Both writers have many credits for television show episodes and were also producers/writers on The Shield.

Hancock director Peter Berg spoke with Sci Fi Wire about where a sequel to last summer's Hancock might be headed. "There might be another god out there," Berg told the site, referring to the immortal beings that Will Smith and Charlize Theron's characters were in the film. "Might be another one." The director would also like to see the return of Jason Bateman's character and see where his new charity organization is headed.
So if Hancock's director has ideas for a sequel then why hasn't Sony Pictures started getting the ball rolling on it? "They like to fast-track it, but Will's busy, I'm pretty busy," Berg explained. "We're excited to do one, but we want the script to be right and the movie to be right. We don't feel a burning imperative to go right back into it."
