Hangover director Todd Phillips spoke with MTV Movies Blog and gave us a reassurance that the sequel is more than just talk. "We were thinking of sequel ideas when we were shooting, which sounds cocky, but we were doing it more because it was just fun to talk about ideas while hanging out on the set," Phillips told the site. "Two weeks ago I was saying, 'Let's see how it works out.' Now that the movie has really connected, it's something we're doing for sure."

Phillips imagines that the earliest he and the other four actors (and that's the first confirmation that Justin Bartha is also coming back) could be rolling is in the spring of 2010. "I wouldn't do it unless all four guys were back," he said. "I love The Hangover so much and I think we could crush it with the sequel. I've never had more fun making a movie, ever. Not that Old School wasn't fun, but these guys were so hungry and ready to kick ass everyday. We just all gelled so well on this film."

Two months before the first film is slated for release Warner Bros. has authorized work to begin on a sequel to The Hangover. Director todd Phillips has signed to direct, co-write (with Scot Armstrong) and produce the second film and deals have all been secured for actors Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zack Galifianakis to reprise their roles. The setting and storyline have not been revealed.

Variety theorizes that what's given Warner Bros. the confidence to march ahead on the second film are the high test scores from the first one as well as a positively received trailer at ShoWest.
