Coming Attractions has uncovered that this formerly untitled supernatural thriller based on actual events is actually called The Haunting of Eastern Airlines. The project is based on true events that occured when Eastern Airlines Tri-Star Flight 401 crashed in December, 1972 in the Florida Everglades killing 101 crew and passengers. Shortly thereafter the ghosts of two of the deceased crewmembers, pilot Bob Loft and flight engineer Don Repo, were seen more than 20 times on other Tri-Star flights, often on the same planes that had been fitted with parts salvaged from Flight 401. The case is noted in paranormal circles in that the eyewitnesses that saw the two apparitions were respected flight personnel (even a vice president of the company reported seeing and speaking with the ghost of Loft) and in positions of authority where their mental faculties and powers of observation were judged to be clear and competent.
A book detailing the hauntings titled The Ghost of Flight 401 was published in the 1970s and later turned into a 1978 made-for-television movie that starred Ernest Borgnine as the spectral airline pilot.
