Via their Twitter feed Production Weekly announced the first three cast members for the film, and they are John Cusack (2012, Grace is Gone), Rob Corddry (W., Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay) and Craig Robinson (Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Pineapple Express).
What we can add to P.W.'s report is the names of the characters that the trio play (Adam, Lou and Nick, respectively) and that Mr. Cusack is also one of the producers on this feature scheduled to begin filming April 20 in Vancouver, Canada. Coming Attractions has also learned that Steve Pink, a co-producer on Cusack's High Fidelity as well as the screenwriter of that film and Grosse Pointe Blank, may be slipping into the director's chair on this one.

The writer for Hot Tub Time Machine reached out and contacted Cinematical to explain how in God's green earth this project got sold to Hollywood...or maybe just to say that he's just as mystified as everyone else.
"I was able to sell a script called Hot Tub Time Machine. To an actual movie studio. That in and of itself seems ridiculously implausible, and yet, here we are," Josh Heald tells the Cinematical brethern. "I think I should get an award of at least some sort of free sandwich. I will say, without giving anything away, that my goal with the screenplay was awesomeness, through and through. And audiences will not be disappointed."
More non-spoiler words from Heald are available for your eyeball consumption at the link, but we here at CA are in absolute agreement that, in this day and age, seeing the title Hot Tub Time Machine up on a movie marquee should count for at least a token ham on rye somewhere.

Josh Heald has set up the comedy Hot Tub Time Machine with MGM. As described by The Hollywood Reporter, the film centers on a group of douchebags (Reporter calls 'em "cads", but let's be honest, we'd call them worse) who all jump into a hot tub and begin getting loaded. Somehow this opens a time vortex to the past and from there the group are given another opportunity to rediscover their "mojo". It sounds like Back to the Future but from Biff Tannen's point-of-view but color us interested.
"We're always looking for ways to stand out from the rest of the pack in today's crowded marketplace, and what better way than to combine hot tub debauchery and the complications of time travel," said MGM exec vp production Cale Boyter to the trade magazine, summing up our reasons for being interested.
