Warner Bros. has furnished us with the official story synopsis of Jonah Hex:

"Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin) is a scarred drifter and bounty hunter of last resort, a tough and stoic gunslinger who can track down anyone...and anything. Having survived death, Jonah's violent history is steeped in myth and legend, and has left him with one foot in the natural world and one on the "other side." His only human connection is with Leila (Megan Fox), whose life in a brothel has left her with scars of her own. But Jonah's past is about to catch up with him when the U.S. military makes him an offer he can't refuse: in exchange for his freedom from the warrants on his head, he must track down and stop the dangerous terrorist Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich). But Turnbull, who is gathering an army and preparing to unleash Hell, is also Jonah's oldest enemy and will stop at nothing until Jonah is dead. Based on the legendary graphic novel, Jonah Hex is an epic adventure thriller about one man's personal quest for redemption against the vast canvas of the battle between good and evil."

Here's the first officially released publicity shot of Josh Brolin as Jonah Hex. Sure, he's not looking at the camera but we can definitely see what part of his scarred face looks like. It sure ain't purdy, ain't it?

According to Ain't It Cool News, heavy metal band Mastodon is composing the score for Jonah Hex. The Grammy-award winning sludge band hails from Atlanta, Georgia, have released four albums and are much loved by critics of the American heavy metal music scene.

From optimum5x5's YouTube channel comes video from yesterday's Warner Bros. panel where the cast members and filmmakers of Jonah Hex answered questions from the audience.

The first ever photos of what Josh Brolin looks like as scarred gunfighter Jonah Hex have materialized at IMF Daily. Snapped by someone who wasn't supposed to be snapping photos, the spy photos clearly show Brolin in his Hex makeup and walking down an old western town street, gun in hand. Seven spy photos of Megan Fox on the set of Jonah Hex have commanded our attention this morning. After first appearing in the Phun.org forums and then shouted out by Movie Gab and CHUD, four of the photos show Fox dressed up as either a old west saloon floozie, a prostitute or both. Two of the snaps show her dressed in more lady-like attire, but really, who cares about those? Man, that is one tight corset.

Six spy snaps of Jonah Hex star Megan Fox walking from her trailer to set have been published by the aptly named IDontLikeYouInThatWay.com website. While Megan is covering her gunslinger costume by wearing a white robe as she walks to the set, you can get a glimpse of her booteted feet and a red garter around one of her ankles. As for what the rest of Fox's outfit looks like, you'll have to just imagine until better spy photos turn up or the first official still of her character gets released.

Now that we have photographic evidence that the film is actually rolling, we've moved it into the in production phase.

Michael Shannon and Will Arnett have joined the cast. Shannon is playing a character named Doc Cross Williams who is described by The Hollywood Reporter as "the bizarre ringleader of a brutal gladiator circus event." Reporter also mentions that the character of Williams could be back in future sequels.

Arnett, who is known for his comedic roles, isn't playing a funny guy in Jonah Hex. His character is a Union soldier who gets kicked once too much by his foes and hires Jonah to even the odds.

Megan Fox is in final negotiations to play a gunslinger and romantic interest for Jonah Hex. The Hollywood Reporter is breaking the story that the Transformers actress is close to playing the character of Leila in the film which starts shooting next month. Reporter also expands on the movie's story details stating that John Malkovich's character is a "voodoo practitioner who wants to raise an army of undead to liberate the South."

Jonah Hex has staked a claim on August 6, 2010 for its North American release. There are no other pardners (that'd be movies by yer reck'ning) hitchin' a ride on that date so far.

John Malkovich will play the nemesis of Jonah Hex in the movie, a man named Turnbull who blames the scarred gunslinger for the death of his son during the Civil War. When Hex encounters Turnbull years after the war the older man is a successful plantation owner.

There's also some business news to report: Legendary Pictures, the same company that bankrolled and produced 300, Superman Returns and The Dark Knight, has stepped up to do the same for Hex. Having cash is always a good thing.

Production Weekly reports that filming on Jonah Hex is slated to begin on April 13 in New Orleans.

After helming the CG animated Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who director Jimmy Hayward wants to take a trip into the old west by making Jonah Hex his next assignment. Even though they exited the project last November over creative differences, Warner Bros. still wants to use Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor's script as the foundation for the movie, which is rumored to include a supernatural element to it. However, it's likely that Hayward may oversee a rewrite of the screenplay before it goes into production (which the studio wants to happen later this year.)
