Warner Bros. is slightly delaying the release of its Journey to the Center of the Earth sequel by a couple of weeks, shuffling it back from the original January 27, 2012 opening to a February 10 release.

Five spy photos showing an outdoor set from Journey 2 have made their splash online. While one image shows us Dwayne Johnson and Josh Hutcherson surrounded by crew members preparing to film a scene, most of the snapshots give us a look at Vanessa Hudgens running along a beach.

Sex and the City alumni cast member Kristen Davis has landed a part in Journey 2. She'll play the love interest for Dwayne Johnson's character, the mother of Josh Hutcherson's young explorer.

Michael Caine is now in discussions to play the missing grandfather in Journey 2. Caine has been a fixture in the last four movies by director Christopher Nolan (the most recent one being Inception) and is, of course, a veteran with over four decades of movie roles to his name.

Brandon Fraser is out and Dwayne Johnson is in talks to be the new leading man in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fraser had a problem being able to commit to the sequel's starting dates, opening the door for negotiations to begin with the Scorpion King actor.
Johnson would play the boyfriend of Josh Hutcherson's mon. Together with the lad, the two venture off to a strange island populated with dangerous creatures, trying to find the grandfather of Hutcherson's character.
The trade reports that the talks with Johnson's side are looking good, and a deal could close before the end of the week. New Line wants the 3D picture to start filming come October.

September 23, 2011 is the stated release date for the Journey sequel, now officially announced by Warner Bros.

A sequel to 2008's Journey to the Center of the Earth is said to be in development at New Line Cinema and Walden Media. According to the source, Brendan Fraser is delaying the development because he wants to make the sequel with the original film's director, Eric Brevig, who is currently working on delivering the live-action Yogi Bear to parent company Warner Bros.
