Darren Aronofsky has attached himself as the director on the Machine Man movie project. The auteur, whose next film Black Swan comes out in December, will likely direct the Wolverine sequel first before moving ahead on this new job; Aronofsky isn't confirmed for Wolverine 2 yet but is in deep discussions with 20th Century Fox about the job.

Mark Heyman, Aronofsky's collaborator on Black Swan, will adapt Max Barry's original story for the screen.

Novelist Max Barry is creating a novel titled Machine Man a page at a time on his website. His story, about an engineer that slowly replaces his organic body parts with titanium upgrades, has already been scheduled to be published by Vantage Books in 2011. Now the screen rights have been picked up by Mandalay Pictures with producers Peter Guber and Cathy Schulman set to produce. Schulman said of Berry's book, "Max has written a novel that's like candy for Web-geek personalities and thriller lovers alike." [Full story]
