The box office went to the dogs this holiday season as Fox's Marley and Me became the new number one movie in theaters. The family friendly film took in $37 million over the Friday to Sunday weekend and another $14.6m on Christmas Day to bring its total accumulated gross up to $51,675,000. By comparison the weekend's second-highest grossing film was Bedtime Stories starring Adam Sandler which took in $28m this weekend.

Marley and Me's December 25th opening also proved to set a new record for the biggest Christmas Day opening of all-time, beating the previous champ, 2001's Ali, by $4.4m.
