As studios ramp up their efforts to attract the attention of Oscar voters right now, Sony Pictures Classics has decided to not send out Moon screeners to Academy members nor launch a marketing campaign to build voter interest in nominating Sam Rockwell for a Best Actor nod. The lack of disinterest from the studio has earned the public ire of Moon director Duncan Jones who has tweeted about it to his followers. New York Times bestselling author Neil Gaiman has publicly offered Jones to lend his voice to start a grassroots campaign for Rockwell.

Moon has won three top awards at the 42nd Sitges Film Festival. The film took the top prize of Best Picture as well as Best Actor for Sam Rockwell and Best Screenplay for Nathan Parker.

Moon won the Michael Powell Award for best new British feature film at the 2009 Edinburgh International Film Festival. The jury-selected prize awards Moon director Duncan Jones with a cash award worth £20,000 (about $32,700 USD).

This neato new poster design for Moon turned up on Ain't It Cool. Not only does it do the trick as a trippy optical illusion, we think it nicely shows off the sense of aliennation Rockwell's astronaut dude must be feeling stuck up there all by his lonesome.

Finally the rest of us can see what all the buzz at this year's Sundance and South by Southwest was about. The trailer for Moon has gone up at IGN so now you can get a little better of an idea what to expect when Sony Pictures Classics releases the film in select cities on June 12.
