Boris Kodjoe spoke with Blackfilm.com and revealed that Ali Larter is also returning to the franchise as Claire Redfield, the character she played in Resident Evil: Extinction. Also in the cast is Wentworth Miller from Prison Break.
On his character, Kodjoe said, "I play the leader of the survivors in LA. Milla Jovovich’s character, Alice, is roaming the world looking for survivors and she’s wound up in LA, which has been burning for three years. She comes across an LA jail surrounded be these half-dead [zombies] ... Anyway, she comes across the jail and there’s a couple of survivors and she lands on top of the roof and partners up with me to fight the guys that are coming after them. We’re trying to get all of the survivors out of the jail to safety. We’re starting next week, actually."

Paul W.S. Anderson has gone on the record with Shock Till You Drop and said that he wants to start a new trilogy of Resident Evil films starting with Afterlife. "I always envisioned Resident Evil as a trilogy of films," the director said while attending Comic-Con 2009. "And we've been very lucky where it's a trilogy where the audience has built and built. I wanted to kick off a brand new trilogy. I'm really exited we're doing it [in 3-D] and we're using the same camera system [James] Cameron used for Avatar. There are a lot of exciting things about this one. I don't regard it as Resident Evil 4, I regard it as a re-tooling and rebirth of the entire franchise."

Anderson talks about what's in his future after becoming a new father (his wife is RE actress Milla Jovovich.)
