Marley & Me director David Frankel has come aboard to direct Septimus Heap: Magyk for Warner Bros. The animated fantasy film is based on the first in Angie Sage's planned seven book series (the fifth, Syren, will be released this September.) The studio picked up the screen rights to Sage's novels two years ago.

The Septimus Heap series uses two of the ingredients in another Warner Bros. film franchise, namely magic and youthful main characters. Septimus Heap is the seventh son of a seventh son and has magic abilities. In order to master his wizardry ability Septimus becomes the student of Marcia Overstrand and must study under her for seven years and a day. Septimus has adventures with his adoptive sister Jenna who is also an heir but for the realm of royalty. The books have received many positive accolades and have become international bestsellers.
