The final domestic one-sheet design for Sherlock Holmes has debuted exclusively on Cinematical. While it's not radically different than any of the earlier designs it does bear one important new distrinction: Holmes has styling product in his hair. Gentlemen did that back in the late 19th century?

A rumor that originated from the Daily Mirror tabloid started speculation that Brad Pitt was arriving in London to film reshoots for the film. The story went that Pitt would be playing Holmes archvillain Professor James Moriarty in new scenes designed to beef up the picture. The Mirror even had quotes from an alleged source stating, "Brad is expected to be filming all over London. Cliveden House has been earmarked as a location for Moriarty's home... It's going to be a full-on couple of days, but now the release date has been pushed back they might just do it in time."

But the story's not true. Not only is Pitt busy right now doing press for Inglourious Basterds but Warner Bros. has officially gone on the record saying it's a false story. "The report in today's London Mirror is completely inaccurate," states the WB statement. "Brad Pitt is not joining the cast of Sherlock Holmes and we're extremely pleased with the production of the film. As planned, it will be released on Christmas Day, 2009. In order to complete the movie, we've scheduled a few days on set to shoot a couple of additional scenes, obtain pick-up shots, and perfect some of the visual effects elements, all of which is standard filmmaking practice."

Latino Review was on the floor at this year's ShoWest and snapped a photo of the teaser poster for Sherlock Holmes, everyone's first opportunity to see what the initial marketing for the movie is. The poster is pretty straightforward: the upper torso and head of Robert Downey Jr. emerging from shadow, eyes peering out from overtop of his sunglasses and a shorter than traditional Holmesian smoking pipe clutched in his right hand. The effect is one of mystery and intrigue. See it for yourself.

After a report published by the British tabloid The Sun said that the cast of Sherlock Holmes had been recalled to film extensive reshoots, and that director Guy Ritchie was said to be "fuming" at being ordered by the studio to do this addition work that would take up to five weeks to complete, Warner Bros. has release a statement stating that the Sun's story was false.

"It is not true that Warner Bros. has asked for any reshoots on Sherlock Holmes. The inserts and pickup shots being completed next week, which have long been part of the schedule, do not involve any cast, and are a standard part of filmmaking," read the release.

"Both Warner Bros. and Guy Ritchie are very pleased with the footage they have seen thus far."

Also joining the cast are Mark Strong as the film's villain Blackwood and Kelly Reilly as Watson's love interest, Mary.

Warner Bros. also described the film's storyline as follows: "In a dynamic new portrayal of Conan Doyle's famous characters, Sherlock Holmes sends Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson on their latest challenge. Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country."

Robert Downey Jr. has just signed on to his first feature since becoming an A-list actor in this summer's mega-hit Iron Man and he's going to be playing a retro kind of hero: Downey has committed to play the main man in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes movie.

Variety reports that Downey agreed to play the world's best-known freelance crime investigator after reading a rewrite of the film's script that was done by Ritchie himself. The movie's story drawns from both the original Holmes tales by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle as well as a newly published comic book. Filming is scheduled to begin on the flick this fall.

Saw the ShoWest teaser poster....Holmes has sunglasses on. I guess Ritchie figures that the Sherlock…

Ricco Suave

The only way I could see this working out well is if Ritchie applies his gritty gangster style to it…

Guy Ritchie? A buffed up Sherlock Holmes in a gladiator combat? No, please.
