Still putting along after more than a decade in development hell is the proposed Spy Hunter movie. Warner Bros. has worked out a deal for Zombieland and Gangster Squad director Ruben Fleischer to work on developing the Spy Hunter film. Fleischer's first task will be to find a new screenwriter to start from scratch and pen a new screenplay. That will make it something like the 20th Spy Hunter script to be commissioned (give or take a few numbers.)

Warner Bros. is the new home for the proposed Spy Hunter movie. Originally announced in 2003 and for Universal Pictures, with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to star in the lead role, the project has now gone to the movie studio that controls the video game assets. Warner Bros. picked up the Midway IPs from bankruptcy last year.
The present Spy Hunter film project is being developed by Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes) and Roy Lee (The Strangers). The storyline has also been retooled under the new management to be about a spy hunter whose job it is to liquidate the secret agents of the governments of the world when their services are no longer needed.
Chad St. John is writing the script. His time travel story The Days Before was a finalist on the Black List two years ago.
