Paramount must have confidence that they will soon find a director because they've slated their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie for a December 25, 2013 release date.

According to Deadline, the Iron Man movie writing partnership of Art Marcum and Matt Holloway are getting paid $1 million dollars to write and complete a new draft of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie by October 1.

Writer John Fusco has been hired to write the new TMNT's screenplay. Fusco started his screenwriting career by writing the 1986 film Crossroads starring Ralph Macchio and Joe Seneca, then went on to write both Young Guns movies as well as Thunderheart, The Babe and Hidalgo. In their story about Fusco's hiring Variety notes that the writer has also been performing martial arts since he was 12 and remains a practictioner of Shaolin kung fu. "It is always exciting when you can come aboard a project that bridges the worlds of what you do with what you love," Fusco said about his new job.

A new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is in development. Under the creative direction of The Mirage Group and producers Scott Mendick and Galen Walker, the idea is to rehatch the Turtles movie franchise in time for a 2011 release. TMNT co-creator Peter Laird is involved as an executive producer and told Variety that he wants to make the new movie's story in the spirit of the indie black-and-white comic books where the characters made their debut. Face replacement technology may be used to allow the actors that will play the Turtles to have their actual expressions used on a CG face. [Full story]
