After only appearing in a brief cameo in the last film, Kate Beckinsale has signed on to reprise Selene in Underworld 4. Screen Gems has also readjusted the release of the sequel, pushing it back for a January 20, 2012 release. [Full story]

Screenwriter John Hlavin will pen the story for the fourth Underworld movie. The former staff writer for The Shield told The Hollywood Reporter that his story won't be a prequel like Rise of the Lycans but that "It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don't want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements."
