Ridley Scott isn't developing a single prequel movie to Alien, he's working on two.

While being interviewed by Collider, Scott revealed for the first time that he's actually got plans to make two Alien prequel films. Here's how the information surfaced:

 

Collider: You're developing the Alien prequel, are you developing it as a series of films or a longer storyline?

Scott: It’ll be two.  It'll be prequel one and two.  Then Alien 1 [the original 1979 movie].

Collider: Are you going to shoot the prequels together or shoot them separately?

Scott: At the moment I'm just trying to get the first one out.

 

Scott didn't elaborate any further as to how much of the first Alien prequel's storyline or its characters would flow into the second prequel. He hopes to have the first Alien prequel out in theaters in late 2011 or 2012.
