Hey team,
Just a heads up that as of the evening of 01.22.10 I'm trying out a new ad campaign for the site and a new ad agency so you might experience something that you haven't experienced before in terms of site adveritising. I'm hoping that the pay will be better and that the site can make some better cash. That said, I've seen one pop up appear and I'm not certain that I want pop ups appearing on the site so I'd like to hear user feedback from the regulars and tell me in your own opinion if the ads are intrusive.
The main ad campaign is for FROM PARIS WITH LOVE and the SAW VI DVD, so the real good news is that it's targeted advertising. Hopefully this sort of ad campaigns will increase as the site visibility and traffic climbs.
In case some of you think I'm selling out and trying to become an internet millionaire, what I'm trying to do is monetize the site better so I can make the money to put back into it. I've got thousands of bucks worth of site improvements that I'd love to pay the development team to do for CA. I am taking zero from all monies made by the site. It's all going into making it more cool and a better experience. Besides, I don't know if anyone *can* be an internet millionaire by running a movie website these days.
But really, it's all good. This is a positive step forward in the site's evolution, I just want to make sure that the blend between content and advertising doesn't get lopsided or goes toward a bad user experience. Your feedback is most welcome and appreciated.
Thanks,
Patrick

Somehow, aggressive ads make it seem more like a site lots of people visit.
I'm all for you making money. I can tolerate ads and occasional pop-ups.
Your site is a dotcom site. Selling out is implicit in the "com." If you'd have done it back when it was "bc.ca," I would have bitched you out with a fierceness. (I would not have bitched you out with a fierceness.)
Have you given thought to offering a PayPal button somewhere on the home page?

How's more or less single-handedly creating and policing (non message board) site content going? Does it leave much of your evening free, or has finding free time been a struggle?
(I see you addressed this in your "Ask Patrick Anything" thread; it was added during that dark, miserable time when I was on my holiday vacation. I could just delete the two questions that precede this parenthetical, but this parenthetical is an example of my writing, and my writing will one day be traded for goods and services as though it were cash or post-marital sex. It's best to keep as much of it in the CCA stores as possible.)
