Agent in Place for Lionsgate
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Thursday, June 4, 2009
Spanish director Jose Padilha has attached himself to direct Agent in Place, a gamerflick project set up at Lionsgate. The actual video game that the concept comes from hasn't been published yet.
There's next to nothing known about the game's premise. The storyline was hatched by Flint Dille, a name I remember from my childhood since he wrote dozens of episode of the classic 1980s cartoon shows The Transformers and G.I. Joe. The game is described by Lionsgate as being a "character-driven action thriller" but what's that tell us? Dille also wrote the game content for Electronic Arts' Tomorrow Never Dies video game, if that helps you get a better bead on what this new project could be like.
Another Spaniard will be writing the Agent in Place screenplay, one Braulio Mantovani. The movie will be produced by Lionsgate and Union Entertainment, the company developing the video game. However, it's unlikely that the Agent film will be in any shape to move forward for at least a year, which suits Padilha just fine since he's got The Sigma Protocol set up over at Universal shaping up to be his next film. That one is based on the Robert Ludlum spy book of the same title.
