Baruchel is Cage's Apprentice?

Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Thursday, December 4, 2008

Jay Baruchel (Tropic Thunder) is in talks to join the Walt Disney movie The Sorcerer's Apprentice, starring opposite Nicolas Cage as the master magic user mentioned in the film's title. The pic is a Jerry Bruckheimer production and reunites Cage and Bruckheimer with director Jon Turteltaub. National Treasure 3? Not quite but behind the camera, it's close.

Based on a script by Lawrence Konner and Mark Rosenthal (and I'm betting that there's something to do with Disney's classic Mickey Mouse cartoon involved with it too), Apprentice follows a wizard's search for his protégé in contemporary New York City. Cage and his Saturn Films partner Norm Golightly are getting executive producer credits on the picture along with Bruckheimer's rat park Chad Oman, Barry Waldman and Mike Stenson. Todd Garner is also getting exec credit too.
