Booster Gold pilot ordered by Syfy
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Wednesday, November 23, 2011
The time travelling DC Comics superhero who has dreams of getting rich and famous as a superhero has gotten his shot at finding a wider audience. Syfy has ordered an hour-long pilot for a proposed Booster Gold TV series.
Created by artist Dan Jurgens in 1986, Booster Gold has an interesting origin different from other DC superheroes. He was born Michael Carter in the Gotham City of the 25th century, growing up poor and always wishing he had money. While doing a job as a security guard in a futuristic museum about 20th century superheroes, Carter got the idea to steal 25th century technology, travel back in time to the 20th century, and then create a new identity for himself as a superhero called Booster Gold. Once the press knew about his adventures, Booster would then sell his likeness to sponsors, becoming in essence the first superhero to "sell out".
Although his adventures do count as heroic, the comic book Booster Gold is portrayed in a slightly tongue in cheek manner. It's unclear what creative direction the Booster Gold pilot will have, but with one of the screenwriters of last summer's Green Lantern movie service as its producer, it could be close to its DC counterpart. That producer is Greg Berlanti, and he's hired Fringe's Andrew Kreisberg to write the pilot's script. Both men have also worked on Syfy's Warehouse 13 series.
Booster Gold appeared in an episode of the last season of Smallville where he was played by Eric Marslof.

"it could be close to its DC counterpart"
I'm not really sure what this refers to as both Booster Gold and Green Lantern are DC.
