A remake of Bride of Frankenstein is in development at monster house Universal Pictures. Neil Burger, the writer/director of The Illusionist, is reportedly in talks to work on the new film. Imagine Entertainment is developing the project at the studio.
Long revered by horror aficionados as one of the great films of its genre, the 1935 sequel to Frankenstein was directed by James Whale and starred Elsa Lanchester as the monster's better half. She too was created by Dr. Frankenstein out of the parts of dead women to serve as a mate for the doctor's original creation.
Nothing has surfaced about the direction that Universal or Berger may want to take with the new Bride, if they want to place the story in a contemporary setting or leave it as an early 20th century tale. The studio is in post-production on a new Wolf Man movie, starring Benicio Del toro, which is set in the same time period as the original tale and a remake of Creature From the Black Lagoon but that's been stuck in development hell for years.
Burger's last picture was The Lucky Ones, an Iraq War drama that starred Tim Robbins and Rachel McAdams that was released last year.

Wouldn't they need an original Frankenstein film to build off of first? Unless I guess they write it so that they could just jump straight in.
