Screenwriter John Brownlow (2003's Sylvia) has been selected by Warner Bros. to pen a new version of Captain Blood for the studio, reports Variety.
Captain Blood was first made as a film 1924 but it is the latter 1935 remake that starred Errol Flynn that is the best remembered version. Flynn played Peter Blood, a doctor sold into slavery in the Caribbean who rises against his captors and commandeers their pirate ship, becoming its new captain. It was nominated for Best Picture at that year's Academy Awards.
The new 21st century remake is being produced by Bill Gerber (The Dukes of Hazzard, Beerfest). The studio would like Philip Noyce (Clear and Present Danger, Patriot Games) to direct the movie.
