The director of Easy Rider has left us. Dennis Hopper, the actor/director/writer and star of that seminal 1969 movie that defined the turbulent 1960s for a generation of western audiences, passed away today at the age of 74. Through a series of memorable roles in remarkable pictures, Hopper left a mark on Hollywood and American pop culture in the last half of the 20th century.

Christina Hendricks, London Fog and Photoshop: not the threesome you had in mind
When it was announced two days ago that Mad Men star and notoriously curvy redhead Christina Hendricks would be the new face of London Fog, a respectible number of headlines appeared on Mad Men, fashionista and celeberazzi blogs. Hendricks, who's never been one to hide her ample curves, is shown in a series of photographs on the London Fog website prepping for the shoot. But in the final ads, was her alluring figure diminished through the wonder of Photoshop?

Megan Fox digs Voltron
Slow news day? Not really but when the former leading lady of the Transformers movie franchise is spotted wearing a Voltron t-shirt I believe that it's worthy of a mention. Maybe the gang making the Voltron movie at World Event Productions would be interested in knowing this little fact.

Comic-Con 2010 Thursday line-up
The San Diego Comic-Con has finally posted its Thursday schedule of programming this year's event. There's quite a number of panels devoted strictly to movies and television shows, with a number of high profile actors, directors, writers and producers scheduled to make appearances at their respective presentations. I've pulled out the highlights as they pertain to Hollywood and the movies CA covers. Don't forget that this year's Masters of the Web panel is also happening on Thursday @ 3 PM.

Remembering Robert Culp
Earlier today an accomplished American actor of modest television fame went out for a walk in the neighborhood surrounding his Hollywood home. Sometime during his walk he collapsed to the ground, perhaps striking his head as he fell. He was eventually discovered by a jogger who then notified authorities, who them transported him to a medical facility.
Shortly before noon that man, Robert Culp, was pronounced deceased, the cause of death listed as a heart attack. He was 79-years-old.

Peter Graves, star of Mission: Impossible, dead at 83
Throughout his six decades as a working actor Peter Graves became known to three different generations. When he began his career in the early 1950s, Graves became a leading man, a square-jawed hero. That image gave him the job serving as the agency director when ABC launched its spy adventure series Mission: Impossible. Graves' role as Jim Phelps, the no-nonsense commander that assigned agents missions on tape that would soon self-destruct, became the defining role of his career.

Two and a Half Men minus the star
When Charlie Sheen voluntarily checked himself into rehab there was a couple of big meetings taking place at CBS, the network where the troubled actor's hit comedy Two and a Half Men airs. While the show remains television's number one rated sitcom, CBS has had to deal with the fallout from the domestic incident between the actor and his wife, Brooke Mueller, that occured last Christmas Day.

We all know that actresses have to put up with some pretty slutty expectations if they're to forge a career in showbiz. I'm not questioning the ladies' virtue, no; instead, what I'm observing is the demands that modern pop culture have on a pretty face so that they can grace the pages of a magazine.

This side of Roger Ebert
Roger Ebert is arguably the world's most famous living film critic. In the late 1970s it was both he and Gene Siskel, two Chicago-based newspaper film critics, that hosted the television movie review show Sneak Previews. And like that, suddenly movie reviews started to become pop culture. Without Sneak Previews there likely wouldn't have been an Entertainment Tonight or today's crushing wave of celebrity/movie/television news, reviews and opinion. The modern age of infotainment -- both the good and bad aspects of it -- owes its origin to Siskel, Ebert and public television broadcasting.
