Comic book Cla$$War optioned by Surrogates team
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Monday, October 5, 2009
The makers of Surrogates, Beverly Hills Chihuahua and The Shaggy Dog remake have optioned a little-known comic book. Mandeville Films is the production company and the comic was called Cla$$War. It came out between the years of 2002 and 2004 and was published by an independent publisher called Com.x. Surrogates was based on a Top Cow graphic novel so Mandeville has a proven track record when it comes to mining comics for movies.
Cla$$War was about a superhero called the American, a superpowered man who is called upon by the United States military to pursue America's foreign policy around the world. The writer of the series, Rob Williams, likened his book to a political thriller with elements of Noam Chomsky but with superpowers.
Surrogates producers and Mandeville owners Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman will produce the new movie along with Rick Alexander. A writer hasn't been hired yet.
