A different kind of Funny Story for Zach Galifinakis
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Zach Galifianakis is in contract discussions to star in the comedy-drama It's Kind of a Funny Story. If he inks the deal he'll be the first member of the cast.
The Hangover star would play a patient in a mental institution. While Galifianakis' stock has shot up into the stratosphere since he appeared in the highest-grossing comedy of all time, he wouldn't be playing the movie's central character. That part will go to a younger star, a teenage boy who is accidentally admitted to the adult ward of the institution after being diagnosed with depression.
The movie will be directed by Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden (Half Nelson) from their script which was adapted from the book written by Ned Vizzini.
Emma Roberts (Nancy Drew) is also in talks to star as a teenage girl that befriends the main character. Filming is scheduled to start before the end of the year.
