Spec'd: Marvel's The Avengers DVD

Arriving on September 26, 2012 on home video is Marvel's The Avengers, the highest-grossing superhero movie of all-time and present third-highest grossing movie ever. Paramount Home Video is handling the home video release of the film (as per their agreement with Walt Disney, the owners/theatrical distribution studio.)

The Avengers will have three disc versions: a 4-disc Blu-ray, a 2-disc Blu-ray DVD and a single-disc DVD. Perhaps the most important bonus feature listed on the discs will be an audio commentary track by screenwriter/director Joss Whedon, so expect a lot of comic book geeking out when you pop that one on the player.

Planet Hulk touchdown in February

In February 2010 Lionsgate will drop the latest Marvel Studios animated direct-to-DVD title, Planet Hulk. The story is borrowed from Hulk comic book writer Greg Pak's 12-issue story arc from two years ago which saw the emerald anti-hero dispatched from Earth by his former allies and sent to a faraway planet called Sakaar. There the Hulk became a gladiator in the Red King's arena, learning along the way about the history of Sakaar and of a legend that a fighter will come to break the world. Is the Hulk the worldbreaker prophesized? Will his strength free the citizens of Sakaar from the iron fist rule of the Red King and grant them freedom or will the unlimited rage of the Hulk be the force that destroys the planet?

Trick 'r Treat finally coming our way this Halloween

It's been in the can for two years. Warner Bros. made it but then changed its mind about releasing it. Shockingly, instead of having the stink associated with a bad movie experience, the film in question has been screened twice and received enthusiastic reviews both times. It's called Trick 'r Treat. And finally, after wandering around distribution limbo for years, the Halloween-themed anthology movie is finally going to get released. Director Mike Dougherty has confirmed that the movie is slated to come out on DVD this fall around the time that the holiday it celebrates takes place.
