How much gas is left in the Fast and Furious movie franchise? I've never been the kind of guy to be excited about seeing Vin Diesel and Paul Walker shift gears in 70 mm, but judging from the action sequences in the fourth and fifth FF movies, and the stuff we get to see in the two previews I'm about to show you, there's still plenty of road left down the action highway for these flicks.

The sixth movie (titled simply Fast and Furious 6, like the video game it longs to be) basically has two key marketing points going for it. First off, it manages to cram just about every character from the first five Fast anf Furious movies into its cast. (The only face missing is the lead actor from the third movie, Tokyo Drift, which is Lucas Black.) I'm guessing that film number 6 the The Avengers of the Fast and Furious franchise. Though it comes as a reveal at the end of the first preview, it's still not a secret that Michelle Rodriguez is back in this new installment, even though her character is supposed to be dead and buried.

The second thing Fast and Furious 6 has going for its early form of marketing is the stuff we're seeing in the car chases and things blowing up. Fast Five had an impressive trailer cut for it that showed Dom's gang stealing a bank vault by literally driving away with it through the streets of San Paolo. In Fast and Furious 6, Vin Diesel seems to drive right through the nosecone of an exploding transport plane. How that sequence is explained away in the movie's screenplay is something that I'd be interested in reading.

And here's the new extended first look that hit today. You get an extra two minutes of footage that builds up the movie's premise, but essentially it's just a longer version of the first preview.

I don't think that director Justin Lin is gonna let anyone down. He's going to give us a more expensive Fast Five experience, and that's what the audience has grown to expect from the Fast and Furious franchise. Furthermore (and it's a easy prediction to make), I think that Fast and Furious 6 will be a $200 million dollar hit within its first four weeks of release.
