First image of Gambit from X-Men Origins: Wolverine

The new issue of Empire magazine features a cover story about X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and included in the images is the first look at Taylor Kitsch as Gambit (and as scanned in by Coming Soon.) Fans of the X-Men comic book know that the Cajun mutant has the power to kinetically charge up items which then explode, and the character's favorite weapon of choice are playing cards he throws at his enemies. It looks like Gambit will be seen using cards in the film but in the released photo of Kitsch his eyes aren't black with red irises (or at least in this shot), as the character appears in Marvel books.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine opens May 1, 2009. Wolvie's first trailer will be seen in front of showings of The Day the Earth Stood Still, out December 12.
