Fox gets wet for Fathom flick

After being bandied about by fans as their number one choice, the makers of the Fathom movie have heeded the call and cast dark-haired Transformers star Megan Fox as the aquatic comic book heroine. Based on the Top Cow comic book of the same name, Fox will play Aspen Matthews, a marine biologist/swimmer who discovers she is a member of a race of beings that dwell under the waves.

The movie is set up at Fox Atomic and has been in development for nearly a decade. In addition to starring in the film Fox will also have a producer credit. Video game creator-turned-screenwriter Jordan Mechner (Prince of Persia) will adapt Michael Turner's comic book into script format. Three other producers were named in the Variety story, those being Peter Safran, Steve Bessen and Brian Austin Green.

About seven years ago Titanic filmmaker James Cameron got involved with the development of the Fathom movie but nothing concrete ever materialized from his work on the project.

Unfortunately the book's creator will not be around to see his idea turned into a film as Turner died last year after battling cancer. His comic continues to be published under the Aspen Comics banner.
